Code for Pakistan, in collaboration with Grey Software, Scrimba, and the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (FAST-NUCES Islamabad), successfully hosted the AI for Civic Innovation Hackathon 2026, bringing together innovators, developers, students, and civic-minded problem-solvers from across Pakistan to develop artificial intelligence solutions for real-world civic challenges.

Hosted at FAST-NUCES Islamabad, the hackathon attracted more than 160 registrations from across the country, reflecting growing interest in leveraging artificial intelligence to address public-sector and community challenges. Following a competitive selection process, 30 teams were shortlisted to participate in the final event, where they worked to design and develop AI-powered solutions aimed at improving public services, citizen engagement, accessibility, transparency, and community well-being.

The hackathon provided participants with an opportunity to apply emerging technologies to real-world challenges while engaging with industry experts, mentors, and civic innovation leaders. The event highlighted the increasing role of artificial intelligence in creating practical solutions that can strengthen communities and improve public outcomes.

A total prize pool of PKR 250,000 was awarded during the event, with PKR 100,000 awarded to the first-place team, PKR 75,000 to the second-place team, PKR 50,000 to the third-place team, and PKR 25,000 presented as the Audience Favourite Award. In addition to the cash prizes, members of all winning teams received a one-year subscription to Scrimba’s AI Learning Platform to support their continued growth in artificial intelligence and software engineering.

First Prize was awarded to Sach Batao, developed by Muhammad Anas Tahir, Muhammad Obaidullah, Ali Ateeb, and Ali Zulfiqar. Sach Batao is an AI-powered verification platform that helps users identify scams, misinformation, and fraudulent messages by allowing them to forward suspicious text messages or voice notes on WhatsApp and receive an instant verdict in Urdu.

Second Place went to Haq Itilla – KP Information Commons Companion, developed by Haris Ahmad Khan. The solution improves access to public information and helps citizens navigate Right to Information resources through an AI-powered information companion.

Third Place was awarded to AWAZ DATA, developed by Junaid Ahmad and Muhammad Uzair. AWAZ DATA is building the data foundation for AI that understands Pakistan’s languages by enabling citizens to contribute text, voice, and documents that can help create more inclusive AI systems for millions of native speakers.

The Audience Favourite Award went to RedLockX, developed by Abdullah, Haseeb Ihsan, Muhammad Uzair, and Shaheer Ahmad. RedLockX is an AI-powered cybersecurity solution focused on the detection and prevention of prompt injection and jailbreak attacks, helping make AI applications safer and more secure.

Speaking on the significance of the initiative, Sheba Najmi, Founder and Executive Director of Code for Pakistan, said: “The AI for Civic Innovation Hackathon demonstrates the incredible potential of Pakistan’s young innovators to use emerging technologies for public good. We are inspired by the creativity, technical talent, and commitment shown by participants in addressing real civic challenges through AI. At Code for Pakistan, we believe technology should empower citizens and strengthen communities, and we are proud to work with our partners to create opportunities that help turn innovative ideas into meaningful impact.”

Dr. Waseem Shahzad, Campus Director, FAST-NUCES Islamabad, highlighted the importance of industry-academia collaboration in preparing future technology leaders: “At FAST-NUCES Islamabad, we are committed to fostering innovation, critical thinking, and the practical application of emerging technologies. The AI for Civic Innovation Hackathon provided an excellent platform for young talent to collaborate, innovate, and develop solutions to real-world challenges. We are proud to partner with Code for Pakistan, Grey Software, and Scrimba in supporting initiatives that empower the next generation of technology leaders and encourage the responsible use of AI for societal impact.”

Representing Scrimba and Grey Software, Arsala Khan emphasized the value of experiential learning opportunities for students: “We are proud to support initiatives that empower young innovators to apply tech solutions to real-world challenges. By organising hackathons like this, Code for Pakistan is giving students the kind of valuable experience they can’t get in their classrooms.”

The AI for Civic Innovation Hackathon reflects a shared commitment among civil society, academia, and industry to cultivate the next generation of technology leaders while promoting the responsible use of artificial intelligence for social good. By connecting talented young innovators with real-world challenges, the initiative seeks to inspire solutions that contribute to a more inclusive, transparent, and responsive future.

As artificial intelligence continues to transform societies around the world, Pakistan’s youth are uniquely positioned to drive innovation that addresses local challenges and creates lasting public value. The AI for Civic Innovation Hackathon serves as a testament to the creativity, talent, and potential of Pakistan’s emerging technology ecosystem.
