Khyber Pakhtunkhwa IT Board in collaboration with World Bank and Tech Valley Pakistan, recently concluded a highly successful consultative session in Karachi, the economic hub of Pakistan. The event brought together industry leaders, and key stakeholders to discuss and strategize the growth and potential of “Workaround” which is Pakistan’s first publicly funded Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Ready Facility in Abbottabad and Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The consultative session was marked by insightful discussions, valuable insights, and a shared vision for the future of BPO and IT companies in the region. Attendees included representatives from both local and international BPO and IT firms, who were keen on exploring the opportunities presented by “Workaround.”

As a government project, Workaround operates on a non-profit, non-loss model. Companies hosted here are charged based on actual expenses incurred for rent, utilities, and operational activities. This ensures a cost-effective solution for business needs of every kind of IT & BPO companies. It provides flexibility for OTservices, call center and back-office support operations, and many companies are already renting spaces in Peshawar.

KP IT Board MD Dr Ali Mahmud said: “Workaround will offer IT companies a number of advantages, including subsidized costs and access to a young and talented workforce. We believe that this will make Peshawar and Abbottabad attractive destinations for IT companies from around the globe .”

Tech Valley, acting as the local ecosystem partner in collaboration with the KPITB, is playing a pivotal role in advancing the mission of promoting local employment opportunities in the region. This strategic collaboration not only reinforces the vision of Workaround but also serves as a catalyst for job creation and economic growth in Abbottabad, Peshawar and its surrounding areas.

“The World Bank has been supporting digital inclusion for youth employment in the region for nearly a decade,” said World Bank Senior Social Sector Specialist Shan Rahman. “The Workaround spaces in Peshawar and Abbottabad will provide IT companies with the resources they need to succeed and grow. We believe that this initiative will help to create jobs and boost economic growth in the region.”

Workaround facilities Abbottabad and Peshawar are ready and fully functional.  IT companies interested in learning more about the initiative are encouraged to contact the KP IT Board by visiting their website.
