Lahore (Muhammad Yasir) ‘Greenstar Social Marketing’ (GSM) in collaboration with the ‘Society of Obstetricians & Gynecologists of Pakistan’ (SOGP) organized a three-day conference, where leading experts shared their insights and experiences on the crucial subject of Maternal, Neonatal & Child Health. This annual forum was held from 26th to 28th April 2019, at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Lahore, with the theme; “Healthy Mothers Build Healthy Nations”. GSM is an independent network member of Population Services International.

The former President of Royal College of Gynaecology (RCOG) and Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) – Prof. Sir Sabaratnum Arulkumaran (Dr. Arul) came to Lahore from the United Kingdom on a special visit to address this conference. He discussed the topic of; “SDG targets – postpartum Family Planning, Safe Abortion Care and Emergency Obstetrics”. In the same plenary session, held on the 27th of April, Prof. Nighat Shah from Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi also gave a talk on “Quality of Care in Post Abortion Care”. Many other learned practitioners also added value to the conference.

Moderating to the session, the Chief Executive Officer of Greenstar Social Marketing – Dr. Syed Aziz ur Rab stated that: This was yet another international conference by SOGP, that generated valuable debates and promises to create awareness in Pakistan, about the most important aspects of Maternal Health, Safe and Effective Contraceptive Practices, post-partum & post-abortion family-planning, etc. I would like to thank all the leading gynecologists and healthcare experts who enriched the discussions on advanced researches, important cases and shared their learning experiences with the delegates. These deliberations will go a long way in addressing the unmet need for Population-planning in Pakistan”.

The importance of effective communication with women, during intra partum care, has been identified as one of the most important strategies. Along with the valuable knowledge provided during this conference, the delegates were also able to enjoy the fascinating cultural heritage and scrumptious meals offered by the historic city of Lahore.
