As electronic music continues to connect audiences around the world, Pakistani American artist Prem G is building his own space within the movement by bringing together modern House music and the sounds and emotions of South Asian culture.
Born in Karachi and now based in Texas, Prem G is an electronic music producer, DJ, songwriter and composer whose journey is shaped by two different musical worlds. Living in the United States exposed him closely to contemporary electronic and House music, while his connection to South Asia continued to influence the melodies, emotions and cultural identity behind his work.
Instead of choosing between those worlds, Prem G decided to connect them.
His vision is bigger than simply adding electronic beats to Desi songs. Prem G wants to create House music that a new generation across Pakistan, India and the global South Asian community can genuinely connect with. Music that carries the energy of the global dance floor while still having something familiar at its heart.
That direction can already be heard across releases such as Qalandar, Mera Pyar and Karachi, where familiar South Asian influences meet Prem G’s contemporary electronic approach.
But Prem G does not want to be defined only by reimagining existing music. His larger ambition is to develop an electronic sound of his own that gives South Asian listeners another way to experience House music.
For an audience that can move from a Desi classic to hip hop, House and international pop within the same playlist, Prem G believes there is room for a new electronic identity to emerge from this cultural crossover.
