In a statement issued here on Monday, he said that the entire business community not only appreciated the efforts of the Prime Minister against the scourge of smuggling but also stood by the government.

He also demanded that similar concrete steps be taken to curb the smuggling of imported food items to discourage the smuggling mafia. He said legal importers who pay crores of rupees to the government in the form of taxes should not incur business losses. They should be able to play their due role in the development of the country by increasing their business activities. This will result in an increase but also help in eliminating unemployment, he concluded.
