K-Electric Becomes First Power Utility to Set Up COVID Vaccination Center for Employees

Karachi (Muhammad Yasir) In a first for the power sector, K-Electric has launched its first COVID-19 vaccination center on its own premises in collaboration with the Government of Sindh, offering coverage to employees and eligible dependents as well. Senior officials from the Government of Sindh’s Health Ministries visited the facility on Monday with KE Leadership and were given an update on the progress of the employee vaccination program. The fully equipped centers are located at KE’s certified Elander Road and Nazimabad facilities. Vaccinations are being provided and administered by Government of Sindh employees free of cost. This step was taken by the utility to ensure the protection of its staff, especially its field teams, who are performing the critical task of ensuring reliable and uninterrupted power supply for Karachi and its adjoining areas. As a socially responsible corporate entity, K-Electric considered it their duty to facilitate its employees in acquiring access to the vaccination.

Speaking on the occasion, CEO K-Electric, Moonis Alvi said, “Our employees are our most valuable asset and we want to prioritize their well-being at all times. We are proud to be the first power utility in the country to be offering this service in-house for our people. This would not have been possible without the support of Heath Department, Government of Sindh, and we are grateful for their participation. By vaccinating our employees and their families, we are confident that we will lower the impact of this pandemic on our communities as well.” Dr. Kazim Jatoi, Sindh Health Secretary, also added, “We are very pleased with the concern and proactive approach that K-Electric is showing in vaccinating its employees.

This is the first instance of an organization requesting for our support in setting up a center, and we hope this encourages others to also participate. As the vaccines become widely available, we urge all eligible citizens to register themselves through 1166 and get immunized as quickly as possible, so that we can curb the spread of this disease.” The utility advised all citizens across Karachi and its adjoining areas to remain compliant of the prevailing Government SOPs for their continued safety.
