Ajoka Institute Art of Acting Course Batch 33 performed “Jhalli Kithay Jaway” at the PILAC Auditorium. The play, originally staged over 25 years ago, was reimagined by this batch of students and brought to the stage for the first time by these young actors, offering a contemporary take on a classic story.
“Jhalli Kithay Jaway” tells the journey of a Pakistani woman from a hopeful bride to being labeled a “jhalli” as she navigates societal pressures and expectations. Blending original songs with traditional dances that reflect Pakistan’s rich cultural heritage, the narrative highlighted themes of resilience, social expectations, and the challenges women face in society.
The performance featured students Abdul Rehman Aziz, Zubair Khan, Vishal Pervaiz, Khuban Azeemi, Jawaria Rafaqat, Hamza Atif, Hajrah Kashif, Rabia Khalid, Ahmad Hasib Jilani, Zain Bhatti, and Kinan Gull Khan, whose dedication and skill were widely praised by the audience.
The play was directed by Ajoka Institute Director Nirvaan Nadeem, who guided the students throughout the rehearsal process, ensuring a professional and engaging production.
Certificates of completion were distributed to the successful students by Executive Director Shahid Nadeem. Speaking on the occasion, Nirvaan Nadeem said:
“These students have demonstrated exceptional commitment and talent in bringing this story to life. Through their performance, they have carried forward Ajoka’s mission of using theatre to reflect society, challenge norms, and tell meaningful stories. This show marks an important milestone for these young actors and the future of theatre in Pakistan.”
The performance was warmly received, with the audience applauding the energy, skill, and creativity of the young actors. The event highlighted the potential of Pakistan’s next generation of performing artists and reinforced Ajoka Institute’s commitment to nurturing talent and providing platforms for emerging actors to showcase their craft.
Ajoka Institute also extends its sincere thanks to the management of the PILAC Auditorium for providing the venue and support in making the event a success.
